Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information PractDesk ("PractDesk", "we", "us") collects when you use our website and application (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

PractDesk helps individuals organize their marriage-based green card process and helps immigration law firms manage client cases. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice — see our Disclaimer for details.

2. Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), and — if you sign up as a lawyer — firm name and bar information you choose to provide.

Case and profile information: immigration status details, marriage date, process stage, partner information, and other data you enter to personalize your dashboard.

Documents you upload: files such as passports, certificates, or USCIS notices you choose to store in the Service, along with any AI-generated summaries or classifications of those files.

Communications: messages you send through the in-app secure messaging between a lawyer and a client, and messages you send to our AI assistant.

Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number — Stripe handles that in compliance with PCI-DSS.

Usage data: basic technical information such as browser type and general usage patterns, used to keep the Service reliable and secure.

3. How we use your information

To provide and personalize the Service (dashboard, timeline, document organization, AI features, lawyer-client case collaboration).

To process firm payments and manage lawyer subscriptions.

To respond to support requests and improve the product.

To meet legal and security obligations, such as detecting abuse or fraud.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. AI features

Certain features (document classification, USCIS letter explanations, chat assistance, interview practice feedback) send relevant text or file content to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a response. We do not use your data to train third-party foundation models beyond what that provider's standard API terms specify.

AI-generated content is organizational and educational in nature. It is not legal advice — see our Disclaimer.

5. Sharing your information

If you connect your account to an immigration lawyer through an invite, that lawyer can see the case information, checklist, requested documents, and messages associated with that case — this is the core purpose of the lawyer platform.

We share data with service providers who help us run the Service, currently: Supabase (authentication, database, file storage), OpenAI (AI features), and Stripe (payments). Each provider only receives the data necessary to perform its function.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PractDesk or our users.

6. Data storage and security

Your data is stored with Supabase using Row Level Security, meaning database rules restrict access so that, in general, only you (and, for connected cases, your lawyer) can read your data.

Uploaded documents are stored in a private storage bucket, organized under a path scoped to your account.

No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information.

7. Your rights and choices

You can access and update most of your profile information from within the Service (Settings).

You can request a copy of your data or request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us — see Contact below.

You can switch your interface language between English and Spanish at any time in Settings.

8. Data retention

We retain your account and case data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the Service. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business records (e.g., billing history).

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.

11. Contact

Questions about this Privacy Policy or your data can be sent to info@practdesk.com or by your lawyer's firm if you were invited to PractDesk by them.
